[komodo] every child is an artist...

Every child is an artist.
The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.

Finding Happiness

Finding happiness is like finding yourself. You don't find happiness, you make happiness. You choose happiness. Self-actualization is a process of discovering who you are, who you want to be and paving the way to happiness by doing what brings YOU the most meaning and contentment to your life over the long run.

good sacred memory from childhood

"You must know that there is nothing higher and stronger and more wholesome and good for life in the future than some good memory, especially a memory of childhood, of home.

People talk to you a great deal about your education, but some good, sacred memory, preserved from childhood, is perhaps the best education.

If a man carries many such memories with him into life, he is safe to the end of his days, and if one has only one good memory left in one's heart, even that may sometime be the means of saving us."

~ Fyodor Dostoevsky (The Brothers Karamazov) ~

It takes a lot of slow to grow

Hurry, scurry
Worry, flurry
There go the grown-ups
To the office, to the store
Subway crush, traffic rush

No wonder Grown-ups don't grow up anymore
It takes a lot of slow to grow.

~ a poem by Eve Merriam ~

These days, it's not only grown ups, but also children who hurry from one thing to another. Our children rush between Little League and computer class, birthday parties and piano lessons.
For our children, as well as for us, there isn't always time to see, to wonder, to pretend and to dream...

at the desk...

At the desk where I sit, I have learned one great truth.
The answers for all our national problems - the answers for all the problems of the world - comes down to a single word. That word is "education"

the function of education

The function of education is to give student abundant knowledge
in the various fields of human endeavor and
at the same time to free his mind from all tradition
so that he is able to investigate, to find out, to discover.
Otherwise the mind becomes mechanical, burdened with the machinery of knowledge.
~ Krishnamurti ~
